Under the direction of the Pathology manager this person performs the preparation of laboratory specimens for microscopic evaluation by the pathologist through the use of microtomy, special staining, histochemistry, and other appropriate techniques. The Histological Technologist is a clinical laboratory technologist with a specialty licensure in histology who works with in the pathology department to prepare samples for evaluation by the pathologist using specialized knowledge and skills. This person will prep frozen sections and have the ability to use a cryostat for immediate evaluation. This person may be asked to assist in grossing of pathology specimens into the Pathology Laboratory. The technologist will be responsible for preparation of cytology non-gyn slides and cell block. This person must conform to HIPPA requirements and follow all OSHA, Joint Commission and CAP regulations maintaining the standards of Baptist Health Care. This person must maintain all Continuing Education hours in a timely manor to keep Florida Histotechnologist licensure in good standing with out lapse.
The person in this position works under general supervision of the Pathology manager, and is responsible for various rotating shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
