The Medical Technologist is responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. This position performs requested clinical procedures on body fluids and clinical procedures related to patient care; performs quality control maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments, performs clerical work in the absence of a technical assistant and assist the manager in any capacity requested. This position
performs QA and QC review, blood utilization review and billing for blood bank and send out departments. The Medical Technologist is expected to understand and apply blood bank theory demonstrated through the ability to perform complex antibody identification successfully. He/She does an inventory assessment and orders blood products as needed. This person sends samples out to reference laboratories; receives, enters results and approve same results. This person performs tracking for specimens coming to the laboratory and helps with the send outs to reference laboratories and receive and approve same results.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
