The Registered Nurse-Pre Op provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The Pre-op Registered Nurse performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and other professionals in the facility. Performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned. The Pre-op Registered Nurse works under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, and the clinical manager. She/He is responsible for the assessment, care coordination, and implementation of the pre-operative care plan of the patient according to prescribed procedures. The Pre-op Registered Nurse collects data on patient medical/surgical history, medication history, & current prescribed treatment. Collaborates with multidiscipline in order to optimally prepare the patient for their surgery/procedure. The Pre-op Registered Nurse must have high level critical thinking skills; the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, & communicate effectively at all levels of communication. She/he utilizes pre-surgical care knowledge to prepare the patient for the next level of care. The Pre-op Registered Nurse is responsible for the education preoperatively. Responsible for computer documentation during the preoperative phase of treatment.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
