The Vascular Access Team (VA Team) Registered Nurse is involved in the safe insertion of vascular access devices and serves as the resource for infusion related activities in the acute care setting. The primary functions of the Vascular Access Team RN consists of activities related to the safe insertion, delivery, site care, and maintenance of vascular access therapies including fluids, medications, blood/blood components, and parenteral nutrition. The Vascular Access Team functions are directed toward advancing patient safety. This is accomplished through enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and consistency for safe initiation and delivery of infusion services along with facilitating the reduction and/or elimination of complications and harm. Attainment of these objectives can contribute to improved patient experience, favorable outcomes, vascular preservation, and decreased length of stay.
The VA Team is responsible for oversight of vascular access activities in the following locations: Baptist Hospital, Baptist Medical Park, Gulf Breeze Hospital, Jay Hospital. The VA Team will provide educational support for vascular access to Baptist Hospital, Gulf Breeze Hospital, Jay Hospital and Baptist Medical Park. The VA Team will assist with peripheral intravenous access (PIV) line insertion at Baptist Hospital. The VA Team will distribute the administrative duties of the team across the members of the VA Team (e.g, data collection and analysis, educational activities, policies/procedures, staffing/scheduling, supplies and equipment, etc.)
The RN in this position must function effective with limited supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
