  • Overview

    The Clinical Risk Manager leads implementation of the Risk Management Plan.  He/She investigates, resolves, documents and reports organization specific patient and visitor complaints and concerns to leadership and staff.  He/She is responsible to develop, implement, and participate in customer service, patient safety, and patient relations initiatives related to Baptist Health Care Corporation.  The Clinical Risk Manager is responsible for incident investigation and clinical reviews. This position also conducts risk assessments, Root Cause Analyses, audits, and chart reviews as needed to help ensure the delivery of safe quality care to our patients.  He/She facilitates cases for review within the Focused Professional Practice Evaluation process.  He/She is responsible for problem-solving in real time by providing assistance to staff and leaders throughout the corporation as needed. 


    The Clinical Risk Manager is responsible for managing processes within the department.  He/She may provide oversight of direct reports within risk management.   Assists claims management with clinical interpretations, chart reviews, interviews with clinicians and patient and family encounters.  Functions include reviews, analysis, coordination of internal and external physician review, coordination of committee, summary reporting to oversight committees, responses to AHCA and DOH inquiries in conjunction with the legal department, and identification of trends and risk concerns based on reviews.   In collaboration with the Director and with senior leadership, identifies, plans, and executes activities to promote risk and quality initiatives that ensure patient safety, risk mitigation, performance improvement initiatives, and compliance according to regulatory standards, policies and procedures.  Facilitates improvement initiatives as applicable. Shares information with quality and patient safety department related to opportunities identified through patient record reviews and aggregate reports. 


    The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts (primarily 8-5 M-F), may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters. 


    • ASN Degree required; BSN preferred
    • Three years nursing experience required (prefer Critical Care, ED, or like clinical experience)
    • One year of healthcare leadership experience required 
    • Current Florida License as Registered Nurse
    • Current Florida License for Risk Management within 14 months from the date of hire/transfer
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Evidence of good written, verbal, problem solving and presentational skills
    • Professional appearance and demeanor
    • Ability to guide others in decision making process
    • Excellent customer service recovery skills
    • Good conflict resolution skills
    • Sound clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, leaders, and physicians
