Under the direct supervision of licensed personnel, the Patient Care Tech II performs a variety of routine duties to assist the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care. As a direct care staff, the Technician spends the majority of his or her time interacting with, assisting, and supporting our patients. These responsibilities may include, but is not limited to assisting with ambulating and mobilization of patients, taking and recording the patient’s vital signs (i.e., BP, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, & O2 sat), weighing patients, assisting with personal hygiene / AM Care (i.e., Oral Care, Bathing the patient, etc.), assisting with bedpans and toileting, catheter care, empty drains, turning bedridden patients or patients that need assistance with turning, linen changes, assisting with meal preparation, feeding patients, I&O, light cleaning and organizing of patients room, answering call lights, and relaying pertinent information to the nurse. Along with ensuring a safe environment, he or she develops with each individual a therapeutic relationship which is critical in the healing process. This position also through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments and visitors. He/she performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. This position also maintains close observation of all monitors in the Central Monitoring Room, notifying personnel when she/he observes rhythm disturbances. The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
