  • Overview

    The Charge Nurse provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned.  The Charge Nurse works under the supervision & communication line of the Clinical Manager & Director of Surgical Services.   The Charge Nurse is responsible for the daily operations of PACU. The duties include, but are not limited to, supervision of throughput of the patient arrival, preparation for surgery/procedure, and PACU phases. Additional duties include but are not limited to: 6 week staff schedule, break/lunch planning, PROACT/Service Recovery procedures, attendance of department & facility assigned meetings/communication sessions.

     

     

    The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
    • Two (2) years’ experience as an RN in Critical Care or prior PACU experience is required
    • Current Licensure in the State of Florida
    • BLS and ACLS through American Heart Association
    • NIH within 90 days of employment/transfer
    • PALS within 6 months of employ/transfer
    • Demonstrated proficiency in critical care nursing, knowledge and skills
