Overview

Under the direction of the emergency department clinical manager, the Charge Nurse has twelve-hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in the department. The charge nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift and is responsible and accountable for directing and facilitating the flow of patient care activities of the department/area.

 

The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree of Nursing or Nursing Diploma Required
  • One year clinical experience required in an emergency department
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Florida
  • BLS and ACLS through American Heart Association
  • NIH
  • PALS through American Heart Association is required within six (6) months employment/transfer
  • TNCC within one (1) year of employment/transfer
  • CPI within one (1) year of employment/transfer
  • Demonstrated proficiency in critical nursing, knowledge, and skills
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in relevant area of nursing practice
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency 
  • Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others
