Overview

The Behavioral Medicine Clinical Nurse is a key player in the delivery of care consistent with the Recovery Model.  As a Registered Nurse he or she explains illness, symptoms, courses of treatment and hope for the future and begins to teach the individual about the use and benefits of personal recovery and prevention of relapse. The Clinical Nurse informs the individual of benefits of active treatment, including medication and the intended and unintended effects and ensures that the individual is educated about choices and resources available.  Along with ensuring a safe environment for all, he or she develops with each individual a therapeutic relationship which is critical in the healing process.  The Clinical Nurse assures that the patient is educated about his rights regarding care, privacy, safety, confidentiality of medical records, Baker Act and the right to be free from inappropriate use of restraint and seclusion. The nurse demonstrates and role models the use of de-escalation and uses interpersonal skills to calm patients involved in potential conflict.  Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

 

The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications

  • Must have ASN degree or Nursing Diploma
  • Current RN license in the State of Florida
  • BLS through American Heart Association 
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) obtained during orientation 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills
  • Must pass Level 2 background screening
